Description
What is Melanotan II?Melanotan II (MT-2) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It consists of seven amino acids in a cyclic structure that provides enhanced stability and receptor binding compared to the natural hormone.
Unlike the linear MT-1, Melanotan II has a broader receptor activity profile, acting on multiple melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R). This wider activity accounts for its effects on pigmentation (MC1R), sexual function (MC3R/MC4R), and appetite regulation (MC4R).
MT-2 has not been approved by any regulatory agency for medical use. A derivative of its MC4R-binding properties, bremelanotide (PT-141), was developed separately and received FDA approval for hypoactive sexual desire disorder.
MT-2 is not approved by the FDA for any medical use. All products are sold strictly for laboratory and research purposes only.
