What is Tesamorelin?

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) consisting of 44 amino acids with a trans-3-hexenoic acid modification at the N-terminus. Tesamorelin is the only GHRH analog that has received FDA approval.

Tesamorelin was approved by the FDA in 2010 for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected patients with lipodystrophy. It works by stimulating the pituitary gland to produce and release growth hormone in a pulsatile, physiological manner.
