What is Selank?

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is based on the naturally occurring immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), with the addition of a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence that enhances metabolic stability.

Selank has been approved in Russia as a prescription medication for anxiety and neurasthenia. It is classified as an anxiolytic peptide and is one of the few peptides with regulatory approval for anxiety-related conditions, though it has not been evaluated by the FDA or EMA.

Research has focused on its effects on GABA neurotransmission, enkephalin metabolism, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression, and immune function. Selank has shown activity in preclinical models of anxiety, depression, and immune dysregulation.
