Anti-Inflammatory Peptide

KPV

Certificate of Analysis

KPV is a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory tripeptide derived from the C-terminus of alpha-MSH, studied for its ability to inhibit NF-κB signaling and modulate inflammatory pathways independent of melanocortin receptors in preclinical research.

Description

What is KPV?

KPV (Lysine-Proline-Valine) is a tripeptide corresponding to the C-terminal sequence, positions 11 to 13, of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It was first identified as possessing autonomous anti-inflammatory activity by Hiltz and Lipton in 1989.

KPV retains much of the anti-inflammatory activity of its parent hormone while lacking the pigmentation and appetite effects associated with α-MSH. Research indicates it acts through a receptor-independent mechanism, entering cells directly and inhibiting the NF-κB and IκB kinase pathways that drive pro-inflammatory cytokine production.

In preclinical research, KPV has been investigated for its role in intestinal and immune inflammation, including models of colitis where it is taken up by the PepT1 di/tripeptide transporter expressed in inflamed tissue. Its small size and stability have made it a peptide of interest for gut, skin, and immune research.

Research-grade KPV is sold strictly for laboratory and research purposes only.

Research Applications

Areas of Investigation
Inflammation

Anti-Inflammatory Signaling

Studied for its ability to inhibit NF-κB nuclear translocation and reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine production in cellular models, independent of melanocortin receptors.
Gut Health

Gut & Intestinal Research

Investigated in models of colitis and intestinal inflammation, where KPV is taken up by the PepT1 transporter expressed in inflamed epithelial and immune cells.
Immune Response

Immune Modulation

Examined for its capacity to modulate local and systemic inflammatory responses while preserving the immunomodulatory profile of its parent hormone α-MSH.
Skin Health

Skin & Tissue Research

Researched for potential anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity relevant to dermatological and wound-related models.
