Description

What is IGF-1 LR3?

IGF-1 LR3 (Long Arg3 Insulin-like Growth Factor-1) is a synthetic, modified analog of human IGF-1 consisting of 83 amino acids. It differs from native IGF-1 through two key modifications: a glutamic acid-to-arginine substitution at position 3 and the addition of 13 amino acids at the N-terminus.

These modifications dramatically reduce IGF-1 LR3’s binding affinity for IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs), which normally sequester and inactivate circulating IGF-1. As a result, IGF-1 LR3 has a significantly longer half-life and greater potency compared to native IGF-1.

In preclinical research, IGF-1 LR3 has been studied for its effects on cell proliferation, protein synthesis, and metabolic regulation. It acts through the IGF-1 receptor (IGF-1R) to activate the PI3K/Akt and MAPK signaling cascades.

IGF-1 LR3 is not approved by the FDA for any medical use. All products are sold strictly for laboratory and research purposes only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about IGF-1 LR3 research
What is IGF-1 LR3?+
IGF-1 LR3 is a modified 83-amino acid analog of human IGF-1 with an arginine substitution at position 3 and a 13-amino acid N-terminal extension. These modifications reduce binding protein affinity, increasing potency and half-life.
How does IGF-1 LR3 differ from native IGF-1?+
IGF-1 LR3 has dramatically reduced binding to IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs) that normally inactivate circulating IGF-1. This results in a longer half-life and greater bioavailability compared to native IGF-1.
How should IGF-1 LR3 be stored?+
Lyophilized IGF-1 LR3 should be stored below -20°C, away from light and moisture. It is highly sensitive to degradation. Once reconstituted, refrigerate at 2–8°C and use within 7 days.
Is native IGF-1 FDA approved?+
Yes. Native IGF-1 (mecasermin, brand name Increlex) is FDA approved for the treatment of severe IGF-1 deficiency. However, IGF-1 LR3 is a modified analog and is not FDA approved.
Is IGF-1 LR3 FDA approved?+
No. IGF-1 LR3 is not approved by the FDA for any medical use. It is prohibited by WADA. All products are sold for research purposes only.
