Description
What is ARA-290?ARA-290, also known as cibinetide, is an 11-amino-acid peptide derived from the helix B domain of the erythropoietin (EPO) molecule. Unlike full-length EPO, ARA-290 binds selectively to the innate repair receptor (IRR), a heteromeric complex of the EPO receptor and the beta-common receptor (CD131), and does not stimulate erythropoiesis.
The innate repair receptor is upregulated on injured or metabolically stressed tissue, including neurons, immune cells, and vascular endothelium. By engaging this pathway rather than the classical homodimeric EPO receptor, ARA-290 has been studied in preclinical models for modulation of inflammatory signaling, nerve fiber integrity, and tissue protection following injury.
ARA-290 has advanced into Phase 2 clinical investigation for sarcoidosis-associated small fiber neuropathy and for neuropathic pain in type 2 diabetes, with endpoints including corneal nerve fiber density and patient-reported pain measures. Because it lacks erythropoietic activity, it does not carry the hematocrit-related effects associated with EPO itself.
ARA-290 is not approved by the FDA or any other regulatory agency. It is sold strictly for laboratory and research purposes only.
