Description
What is 5-Amino-1MQ?5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme highly expressed in white adipose tissue and liver. It is a quinolinium compound rather than a peptide, and is most commonly supplied as the iodide salt.
NNMT consumes two substrates of metabolic interest: nicotinamide, a precursor in the NAD+ salvage pathway, and S-adenosylmethionine, the cell’s principal methyl donor. Inhibiting NNMT is therefore studied as a way to influence intracellular NAD+ availability, methylation capacity, and downstream sirtuin signaling.
Published preclinical work has examined 5-Amino-1MQ in cultured adipocytes and in diet-induced obese mouse models, where NNMT inhibition was associated with reduced adipocyte size and changes in body composition without a reduction in food intake. Separate research has investigated NNMT inhibition in aged muscle stem cell populations and regenerative capacity.
5-Amino-1MQ is not approved by the FDA or any other regulatory agency. It is sold strictly for laboratory and research purposes only.
